General Information;
It is a well known fact that vampires were once living, breathing humans, though since being 'made', have risen from the dead and for centuries preyed on the living, the race possessing a variety of diverse powers and abilities, such as heightened senses, super-human strength, agelessness, etc (and many inherited their own individual abilities, such as flying). Throughout America, the land has been divided into kingdoms controlled by a King or Queen of each state. Within these kingdoms, the state is once again divided into areas (or fiefdoms) which are controlled by a sheriff to each area, with each owing allegiances to the leader of the state they are sheriff within.
'The Great Revelation' was when vampires first announced on network television that they were amongst the living, which followed the announcement of scientists in Japan developing a synthetic blood which provides the nutritional needs for a vampire that human blood gives, meaning they would no longer need to feed from humans, allowing them to integrate into society. Many nations refused to accept vampires as equal citizens, though there were just as many who adopted a more tolerant attitude (such as the United States, and many European countries). Though vampires are now openly living among humans, they still remain highly secretive about their organisation and government.
Like many stereotypes would suggest, vampires are known to be very pale, and very cold to touch (naturally…), though many are unaware of their seemingly super-human strength, speed and inhuman, heightened sense of hearing, smell and vision. Vampires are able to 'glamour' humans, pulling their minds into their own in order to control them. If a human and vampire share blood, a blood-bond is created between the two, this blood-bond links the pair's psyches. Their fangs come out when they are sexually aroused, excited, angered, needing to fight, and at the smell or sight of blood. A vampire is compelled to obey their maker, unless they have been released (an act rarely done among vampires, mainly due to it rarely being needed to be). Vampires are ageless, living for hundreds, upon thousands of years, and can survive and recover from most forms of injuries. The only known ways to kill a vampire is by staking, exposing them to sunlight, completely drained of their blood (though if treated promptly they may recover) or decapitation. Silver is highly toxic to them, but unlike most myths, such things as being in the presence of a crucifix will have no effect on them, similarly with holy water and garlic, which are merely an irritant. They are able to enter any places of worship, and any public place for that matter, but are unable to enter a private home without being invited in. Once they've been invited, they may come and go as often as they please, though if the invitation is retracted, the vampire must exit.
Vampire blood, known as simple 'V', is highly sought after by humans. It is classed as a drug, known to enhance strength, heal wounds, increase attractiveness and ones libido, among various other effects. Because of this, it is sold in vials for sky high prices on the black market. It's known to be highly addicted, and it's effects among first timers can be highly unpredictable, even causing psychotic or murderous rampages. Many humans seek out vampires to simply drain them of their blood, often leaving them out to die in the sunlight the next day.
Law & Order;
'The Tribunal' is part of the vampire's justice system, and is in charge of enforcing vampire laws, passing judgement and punishing those who broke it. The Tribunal is head by a Magistrate, who claims authority over vast territories, far larger than those even of Kings and Queens. All matters of punishment that cannot be managed by and area's sheriff will be passed on to the magistrate. Punishments may be made up on the spot, or it may be decided to go for something more 'traditional'.
eg. For feeding of another vampire's human, punishment is the painful removal of the accused vampires fangs, who must wait and go without feeding for three weeks until they grow back.
